Stubble Telescope

We're now into late August, but still the grot keeps coming. Grotty juvenile Greenfinch:
Juvenile Starling:
Juvenile Robin:
Grotty Goldfinch:
And even the adults are looking the worse for wear:
Traditionally, August may not be the most interesting month, but a Hobby over the garden on the 11th, followed by a Grey Wagtail over and 2 Little Owls calling on the 13th were nice surprises. A huge female Sparrowhawk perched briefly in nearby trees surveying the birds on my feeders on the 20th. Today there were good numbers of Linnets about, perhaps attacted by the stubble, with at least 15 present, including this nice red male:
The stubble fields also held the greatest concentration of birds, in the shape of a huge gull flock: 371 gulls, mostly Lesser Black-backed Gulls, with a few Black-headed Gulls and Herring Gulls thrown in. Still no Mediterranean or Yellow-legged Gulls though:
