The first Cuckoo of the spring was calling on May 2nd and again this morning, while The Hedgerow held the second Lesser Whitethroat of the season (how my grandchildren will stare opened eyed with awe when I tell them about Spring 2010: The Spring With Two Lesser Whitethroats). But in fact it was quite pleasant this morning, Whitethroats fill the hedgerows and there were even a couple of Sedge Warblers hanging on down by the river, failing to attract mates and soon to move on. 2 fly-over Tufted Ducks were a surprise over agricultural land and there was even a displaying pair of Lapwing towards Chiselhampton. Nothing of note, but nice anyway and I have to get the most from whats available before we enter the Death Zone: July and August, when the word "Birdless" takes on new meaning.
