Cold overnight, down to -5 degrees at dawn, so I pop out for a quick look at the local hedgerows. 3 Lapwing over, birdless elsewhere... until I peer through the hedgerows at the private pond... where the unexpected form of a drake Wigeon greets me, the first I've ever seen on this small patch of water. As I see him, he sees me. These pictures taken through the hedgerow:
So much for the moan about the lack of wildfowl in the last post, we just needed a decent bit of "proper weather".
