Omnivores

Snowed in today by 10cm of fresh snow rendering Horspath hill impassable, ah well, at least I have a chance to publish a rouge's gallery of the local garden birds, starting with Greenfinch:

Ok, this one below was taken yesterday before the fresh snow, but is still quite nice, despite being taken through my double glazing, as all the garden bird images are:

The snow encourage one new visitor to the garden, the first female type (it might be a first winter male) Blackcap of the year:

The phenomena of Blackcaps wintering in the UK has only developed in the last 30 years or so, with birds from Germany and the Lowlands changing their migration route to a north-westerly direction and wintering here. Being an omnivore must be helpful, this one goes straight for the high fat peanut feeder:
