Fly-bys

Despite lining up to be the hottest ever April, the weather changed yesterday evening with a heavy thuderstorm and this morning was still misty. The first Cuckoo of the year was a seen only fly-by:

While the distinctive sound of a falcon calling me drew me to see this Hobby aggresssively mobbing a passing Red Kite, before perching in the trees that a pair bred in last year:
A staggering (by the very local and very poor standards of Cuddesdon) 86 species before the end of April, with a few later migrants still not in yet. It's either going to be a record breaking year or a stunningly dull last 8 months. Watch this space. Or if it's the latter, don't.
